Track & Field Women Take Fifth at Macalester, Men Sixth

The women claimed 68 points for fifth place out of 18 teams, while the men collected 46 points for sixth place out of 15 teams.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at Macalester’s Janis Rider/Doug Bolstorff Invitational on Thursday and Saturday. The women claimed 68 points for fifth place out of 18 teams, while the men collected 46 points for sixth place out of 15 teams.

On Thursday, Evelyn Villalobos (Jr., Crystal) won the 5000-meter with a time of 18:07.79 in a field of 32 runners. Sydney Hagen (So., Starbuck) wasn’t far behind, taking third place in 19:18.70. On the men’s side, Logan McCullough (Jr., Waverly, Iowa) took fifth place in the 5000-meter with a time of 15:25.87.

On Saturday, Lauren Rocheford (Fy., Inver Grove Heights) won the 400-hurdles at 1:08.58 for the Gustie women’s second event victory of the meet. Annika Poe (Sr., Big Lake) took second in the shot put, and first among Division III competitors, with a throw of 43-8. Poe also took sixth in the discus with a mark of 117-8. Lindsay Bangs (So., Owatonna) finished second in the high jump with a height of 5-1. Lili Guy (So., Glendale Heights, Ill.) took fourth in the long jump, clearing 16-8.

Josh Beiswanger (Sr., Mankato) highlighted the men with a first place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 180-5. Danny Bies (So., New Hope) took second in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2.75. Peter Oviguian (Sr., Eden Prairie) finished fourth in the javelin, marking 142-0. Trajan Kaeppe (Jr., Cottage Grove) finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 41-11.25. Jake Wielgos (Sr., Elburn, Ill.) ran a sub-2:00 in the 800-meter, taking sixth in 1:59.06.

The Gusties next compete at the Maverick Open at Minnesota State-Mankato on Wednesday.
