MANKATO, Minn. – The Gustavus track teams wrapped up competition at the Deb Schulz open on Friday night. Joshua Beiswanger was a champion for the Gusties in hammer throw recording mark of 53.42m.
“With this being the last opportunity for most to hit a conference qualifier, I thought they really handled the pressure well,” said Head Coach Aaron Lund. “They took advantage of the great weather, and many had lifetime or seasons bests.”
The Gusties started the day out in field events with Connor Gag placing seventh in discus (42.66m) while Annalee Olson-Sola place eighth on the women’s side (37.48m). In the high jump, Danny Bies was the top Gustavus finisher with a 1.83m jump for seventh.
Madi Kes continued to lead the Gusties in long jump with a 5.43 mark to place eighth, Cade Wallin came in eleventh on the men’s side with a 5.89m jump.
Isaiah Subah’s 13.15m triple jump score was solid for fifth overall while Lillian Selberg’s 9.02m ranked ninth.
In running events, Gustavus got out to a hot start with both 4×400 teams placing third. The women were led by Kate Carlson, Ally Rakow, Danielle Miller, and Linsey Bangs clocking a 50.46. The Gustie men’s team of Logan Sullivan, Cole Matetich, Evan Wieker, and Danny Bies came in at 45.58.
“Isaiah put together a great series in triple jump and the women’s 4x400m ended the meet in emphatic fashion by coming together to run a time good enough for second in conference right now.”
Danielle Miller was the top finisher for the Black and Gold in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.85 which ranked eighth while Makenna Huetten’s 16.27 came in right behind her for ninth.
Dominic Flentje (23.28) and Kate Carlson (26.17) each placed fourteenth in the 200 dash. Megan Geraets finished in thirteenth in the 400 dash 1:02.16 while Dylan Gast placed fourth in the event at 50.16.
In the 400 hurdles, Calvin Moeller led Gustavus in sixth (1:00.30) and Makenna Huetten placed thirteenth (1:07.59).
“Madi, Kate and Makenna all had big days and each one moved up to fifth in their respective event in conference,” said Coach Lund.
Tyler Smith’s 1:56.53 time in the 800 proved solid for fourth place and Molly Weberg came in at 2:32.95 for twelfth.
“Additionally Jack Degonda (4:03.05) and Tucker Wallin (4:06.32) had strong showings in the 1500m while Tyler, Blake Fuller (1:57.84) and Carson Roehl (1:57.72) put down incredible performances in the 800m,” added Coach Lund.
The Gusties had strong showings in the steeplechase with Jonah Kalsnes placing fifth at 11:02.27 and Lindsey Paulson placing third clocking 15:04.42.
Decathlon Results | Heptathlon Results
Over in Northfield, Sam Schulze competed in the MIAC Multis Decathlon and recorded 4301 points to place 11th out of 15 competitors and Caylee Greeder scored 3039 points to place 12th out of 14 participants in the Heptathlon.
“The multis are a very difficult event,” said Coach Harder “There are multiple opportunities to succeed and multiple opportunities to fail. It is very difficult to PR in a full Decathlon/Heptathlon, and both of our athletes did just that. We are very proud of both of them on their performances and we’re excited to see their continued growth.”
The Gusties are next in action on Saturday when they compete at St. Olaf.
