SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus track and field teams hosted three teams for a Twilight meet on Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, Birgen Nelson (So., Edina) broke the stadium record in the 400 hurdles previously set by herself last season with a time of 1:01.93 which currently ranks fifth in DIII.
The Gustie women started strong with a big win in the 4×100 from the team of Madi Kes, Ally Rakow, Sydney Hauger, and Olivia Thomley who clocked a 51.54. The Gustavus men also won the relay from the team of David Peal, Nathan Le, Seith Zeitchick, and Wyatt Quiring (42.80).
The Gustavus women kept things rolling in the 400 dash with Emilia Helms-Leslie placing seventh (1:05.81). On the Gustavus men’s side, Dylan Gast led the Black and Gold placing second in the event (50.57).
Makenna Huetten placed second in the 100 hurdles with a 16.52. The Gusties swept the 100 dash with Ally Rakow winning the event with a time of 13.62. On the men’s side, Wyatt Quiring finished third in the event with an 11.09, five other Gusties finished in the top ten spots.
The Gustavus men continued their momentum in the 1500 with Henry Hinchcliffe placing first with a time of 4:10.75, Noah Johnson (4:13.69) and Bryce Knutson (4:13.81) came in right behind him for third and fourth place. The Gustie women also had strong showing in the distance event with Iliana Ramon clocking a 5:05.99 for second place followed by Evelyn Villalobos (5:12.56) in third.
Carson Roehl placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:00.90 and Kailyn Walukas won the event for the women’s team, clocking in a 2:31.53. Alongside Birgen Nelson’s win in the 400 hurdles, Calvin Moeller finished with a 59.45 time for second place.
Quiring continued his success, also winning the 200 dash later in the day (21.92) and Sydney Hauger clocked a 28.38 to place sixth in the event. Claire Schoenfield led the way for Gustavus at the end of the day in the 5k with a time of 20:15.62.
In field events, Connor Gag recorded a discus throw of 41.65 to place third. Joshua Beiswanger won the hammer throw at 53.71m. Nicole Nelson was the top Gustie finisher in the hammer throw with a 37.42m throw.
In the high jump, Lindsay Bangs and Ally Rakow tied in fifth with a mark of 1.48m. Danny Bies kept the Gusties on pace in the men’s high jump (1.78m), placing fourth.
Rachel Erickson continued to impress in javelin, recording a throw of 36.21m to place second. Peter Oviguian won the event with a throw of 45.88m.
Madi Kes maintained her hot streak, winning the long jump with a 5.17m mark, while Annika Poe rounded out the Gustie field events with a 13.87m shot put throw.
