NEW PRAGUE, Minn. – Battling a real feel temperature of below freezing all day Saturday, the Gustavus men’s golf team claimed first place at the 10-team Bobby Krig Invitational. The Gusties fired a 15-over par 299 at the New Prague Golf Club, winning the single round match by nine strokes.
Carter Czichotzki (Sr., Moorhead) led the Gusties with a third-place finish, carding a three-over par 74. Czichotzki pared 15 holes with three bogies. Ben Forsberg (So., Shafer), Jacob Pedersen (Sr., Minnetonka), and Max Ullan (Sr., Blaine) were next in a tie for fourth place at 75. Tommy Hiniker (So., Edina) paced the Gusties’ second team, tying for ninth with a score of 76. Jack Holtan (Jr., Rochester) led the third team with a 79, tying for 23rd out of 60 golfers.
“Not an easy day to compete, but we tried to make the most of it,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Thank you to New Prague Golf Club for having a course ready and hosting us. We definitely did not get out of the blocks as we would have liked, but with considering how difficult the day was I was very pleased with how we finished the round. It’s a golf course that you need to be satisfied with making a lot of pars because birdies don’t come very easily. Those that stuck with their game plan and remained focused saw some good results. Great to see Carter with a third place finish. It was a nice win for us to start off our spring run. Time to enjoy the rest of the Easter weekend and then get ready for next week.”
Gustavus next competes in a dual against Saint John’s on Thursday in Bloomington, Minn.
