DECORAH, Iowa – The Gustavus track and field team continued its winning ways highlighted by four Gusties breaking meet records; Rachel Erickson (Sr., Starbuck) in the javelin throw (34.93m), Annika Poe (Jr., Big Lake) in the shot put (13.67m) and discus (38.18m), Birgen Nelson (So., Edina) in the 100 Hurdles (14.18), and Madi Kes (So., Jordan) in the triple jump (11.28m).

Additionally, Elizabeth Donnelly (Sr., Langely, Wash.) bettered the meet record in the 400M before placing second in the event (57.78).  The Gustavus women won as a team with 221 points against five competitors in 20 scored events while the Gustie men placed second with 181.5 points against six opponents in 19 events.

The Gustie women had a first place finish in the 4×100 relay with the team composed of Danielle Miller, Nelson, Geraets, and Kate Carlson (48.71). Nelson also won the 200 dash 25.27.

On the Gustavus men’s side, Isaiah Subah, Wyatt Quiring, Seth Zeitcheck, and Nathan Le also won the 4×100 relay clocking a time of 43.73. Quiring also won the 400 dash (49.05) and finished second in the 200 (22.42).

Dana Bach won the hammer throw with a throw of 41.60m and Olivia Motley won in the high jump (1.50m). Megan Geraets rounded out the Gustie field placing second in the long jump (5.13m) and in the 100 dash (12.52).

The Gustie men had a clean sweep in the 10000 with Bryce Knutson leading the pack in first place (32:45.50) while Tyler Smith placed first in the 800 with a time of 1:58.31.

Gustavus had strong finishes in the 3,000 with Molly Weberg placing second in the 3000 (12:35.17) and Trevor LaVigne also placing second in the event (10:09.50).

“Distance got us started off today with a solid showing from our 10kers highlighted by fantastic debuts from Evelyn and Logan. This was followed by a great start to our steeple season, I was impressed by Molly, Trevor and Eamonn especially with the lack of preparation going into to it,” said Coach Brendan Huber.

On the field, Joshua Beiswanger placed first in the hammer throw (46.73m) and Isaiah Subah had a long jump of 6.59m placing second.

The rest of the day we had a lot of awesome performances from our distance and mid distance groups in the 1500’s and 800’s. On the guys side, I thought Jack (Degonda) had a great 1500, and Garet was flying all over the place. The three freshmen in the 800 Tyler, Blake and Markus all continued to impress. On the womens side, Kailyn, Anna, Avery and Caitlyn made big jumps in their events and Taina had a great double today. We really saw Gusties compete hard and take advantages of their opportunities today.”

The Gusties will next host the Lee Krough Invite on Thursday April 14th.
