HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Gustavus men’s golf team shot a 293 (+5) on day one of the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Sunday at the Las Colinas Golf Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club and is tied for eighth place. Methodist University leads the talented field of 24 teams with a score of 273 (-15).

Max Ullan (Sr., Blaine) led the Gusties with a first round score of 68 (-4), which included five birdies. Ullan is tied for third place out of 122 golfers. Jacob Pedersen (Sr., Minnetonka) and Wyatt Wasko (Jr., Lake Elmo) both carded 74 and are tied for 41st. Khrystjan Petersen (Jr., Faribault) is tied for 77th with a score of 77, and Carter Czichotzki (Sr., Moorhead) is tied for 119th with an 83.

“We shot a pretty good score of 293 today but it didn’t look like it would be that when we started our front nine,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “That front nine is difficult but we wanted to get off to a better start. At the turn, it appeared that their games started to come around and made more pars and birdies to finish strong and tied for eighth place. There are a lot of nationally ranked teams here and this is a great opportunity for us to finish above those teams. Looking forward to what the guys can do over the next two days. It was a great round for Max Ullan shooting an even 68 though he wasn’t feeling 100 percent. The guy is a grinder and he proved it today with his performance.”

The three-day tournament continues Monday.
