HAM LAKE, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team finished in second place out of 18 teams in the Augsburg Fall Invite with round totals of 303-291-594. Saint John’s won the tournament with a total of 591.
Wyatt Wasko (Jr., Lake Elmo) medaled in the weekend event after carding a hole in one on the eighth hole.
“The team responded so much better today than yesterday,” said Coach Randall Stuckey “As with any athletic team, the first contest of the year can be difficult settling the nerves. Today we came out much more relaxed and committed to our shots. Quite an exciting day for Wyatt Wasko who claimed medalist honors and also getting a hole-in-one on hole number eight from 135 yards. It’s very tough to have a better day than that.”
Wasko ended the weekend shooting 70-73-143 finishing first overall. Jacob Pedersen (Sr., Minnetonka) tied in third shooting 75-71-146. Teddy Kaste (Fy., Apple Valley) made strong impressions with his collegiate debut scoring 75-72-147 tying in fifth alongside Khrystjan Petersen (Jr., Faribault) who shot 74-73-147. Carter Czichotzki (Sr., Moorhead) made his return shooting 80-72-152, tying fourteenth. Max Ullan (Sr., Blaine) carded a 78-75-153 alongside Sam Skaar (Sr., Coleraine) with final scores of 79-74-153.
The team will travel to Pioneer Creek for next weekends rounds beginning Saturday.
