DuMoulin, Nelson, Poe Named MIAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Gustavus track & field athletes Xander DuMoulin (Jr., Shorewood), Birgen Nelson (So., Edina), and Annika Poe (So., Big Lake) all had impressive performances at the NSIC and Friends Outdoor Challenge on Saturday at Minnesota State-Mankato and have been selected MIAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week. 

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Gustavus track & field athletes Xander DuMoulin (Jr., Shorewood), Birgen Nelson (So., Edina), and Annika Poe (So., Big Lake) all had impressive performances at the NSIC and Friends Outdoor Challenge on Saturday at Minnesota State-Mankato and have been selected MIAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week.

DuMoulin leaped into first place in the MIAC long and triple jumps Saturday at Minnesota State-Mankato. Against Division II competition, DuMoulin took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 22-11.25, ranking first in the MIAC and 30th in Division III. He cleared 46-0.75 in the triple for fourth place, ranking first in the MIAC and 23rd in the country. He was also a member of the 4×100 relay that took first in 41.60, ranking second in the MIAC and 11th in Division III.

Nelson had two record setting performances Saturday at Minnesota State-Mankato. Against Division II competition, Nelson placed fifth in the 100-hurdles at 14.21 and her time of 14.06 in the prelims improved her own school record. Her time of 14.06 is first in the MIAC and second in Division III. Nelson then had a school record-setting performance in the 400-hurdles with a first-place time of 1:01.95, breaking Danielle Burgmeier’s 2012 record by nearly two seconds. Her 400-hurdles time ranks first in the MIAC and fourth in Division III.

Poe took fourth place in the shot put Saturday against Division II competition with a mark of 45-5. That mark ranks second in the MIAC and fifth in Division III. She also took 11th in the discus at 122-9.75, which ranks 10th in the conference.
