As August begins and the semester looms, here’s our first entry, from Dr. Thia Cooper.
I’m working on a book introducing people to Marcella Althaus-Reid, an Argentinian sexual theologian, so I’ve been reading a lot of her work. I particularly enjoyed her book From Feminist Theology to Indecent Theology (SCM 2004) I also just read and reviewed Lauren McGrow’s book Missionary Positions: A Postcolonial Feminist Perspective on Sex Work and Faith-Based Outreach from Australia, which was great.
I’ve been thinking a lot about religion and sex. Also, I’ve been thinking and reading a lot about race and religion, lots of black theology. We will be reading James Cone’s The Cross and the Lynching Tree in my Sex, Race, Money, God (MW 02:30PM – 03:50PM) class in the fall.
