The Gustavus athletics department will hear from spring sport senior student-athletes throughout the remainder of the semester, honoring those who are unable to participate in their final season of college athletics.

Today’s Q&A with senior student-athletes include Sarah Anderson (Roseville) and Tierney Winter (Waterville) of women’s track & field, and Mitch Nordin (Mahtomedi) of baseball.

Q: What are you going to miss about being a student-athlete at Gustavus?

SA: I am going to miss (and already miss) my amazing teammates, the support system of coaches, competitively racing, the feeling of going to the well during a long grueling workout, long bus rides, laughing way too much with my best friends, and the list goes on.

MN: I’m going to miss the great teammates and coaches who I have had over the last four years.

TW: Being a part of the Sea of Gold (#sog) has been so incredibly enjoyable. I’m going to miss my teammates and coaches the most! They all brought so much spunk and flavor into my life that I’ve been missing dearly.

Q: What is your favorite sports memory at Gustavus?

SA: There are so many to choose from, but one that comes to mind is racing my first 10k my first year with an amazing training pal, and forever friend of mine, Megan Weaver. Racing just over 6 miles on a track is a real mind game. Toeing the line, I really had no idea what a world of hurt I was about to be in, but we ended up crushing it.

MN: Winning the regular season champion last year for the first time since the early 80’s.

TW: It’s impossible to name just one, but I really enjoyed our Sunday Highs and Lows where the team would recap their week or performance over the weekend. It was really nice to connect with my teammates and check in with how they were doing. Twinning with Seamus Wilson during conference week is a very, very close second.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?

SA: I plan on attending the University of Minnesota to obtain my masters in Horticulture, and then start a fresh-cut flower farm business.

MN: Hopefully I will hear back soon about a job in a sales position where I have had many interviews.

TW: I plan to (hopefully) start my career in the world of data analytics or marketing. Traveling is definitely going to happen, too!
