Not the First Time Without Gustie Athletics

Today, we combat a global pandemic. During the 1940s, there were less than a dozen Gustie teams participating in intercollegiate competition. Today, the cancellation and postponement of sports affects all but six of Gustavus’s 23 varsity teams.

Here in Minnesota, amateur baseball – better known as “town ball” – is quenching the thirst of many for live action sports. The Minnesota Baseball Association recently released state tournament brackets for its three classes and 15 current Gustavus baseball players have the opportunity to play for a state championship.

The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) recognized four Gustavus men’s hockey student-athletes and 14 Gustie women as Krampade All American Scholars from the Division II-III West region

Coley Ries Named Gustavus Head Softball Coach

Gustavus Adolphus College Athletic Director Tom Brown announced Monday that Coley Ries has been selected as the head softball coach. Ries, a 2017 graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, has spent the past three seasons as a volunteer and graduate assistant coach at her alma mater.

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced Wednesday its Scholastic Honor Roll recipients for the 2019-20 academic year with 16 Gusties receiving recognition.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Earn ITA Academic Awards

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced its 2020 Division III Men’s and Women’s ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams. Both the Gustavus men and women received All-Academic Team honors as well as numerous Scholar-Athletes.

MIAC Postpones 2020 Fall Sports

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced Tuesday it will postpone fall 2020 competition in cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball due to the ongoing pandemic. The conference is working to develop spring schedules for those sports, which have been deemed at medium- or high-risk for coronavirus transmission by the NCAA.

Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced its Team Academic Awards for the 2019-2020 season and the Gustavus volleyball team received recognition.
