Intramurals Abound!

Grace Kearney-

Welcome to the Hill, Class of 2028! As your first year begins, you and your brand-new friends may wish to add some fit fun to your lives here at Gustavus. Lucky for you, Intramural Sports offers just that.

Intramurals are a relaxed, recreational alternative to typical sports leagues, which can be time-consuming and stressful. “The goal of Gustavus Intramurals is to provide the students of Gustavus with a recreational program that offers a variety of alternatives to ‘free play’ and varsity athletics in terms of organization and competitiveness,” says the Intramurals page of the GoGusties website.

Fall Intramurals are broken up into two seasons, the first of which runs from September 12th to October 17th. This season includes outdoor volleyball and spikeball. Outdoor volleyball will host both a competitive and a recreational league, while spikeball will be recreational only. Future seasons this year will include competitive and social basketball, badminton, competitive and social soccer, indoor volleyball, and pickleball.

Competitive intramural leagues are meant for students who want to play in a structured yet more relaxed environment than Gustavus’ official teams. Competitive intramurals still require full teams, while social leagues are meant for students who would like to play in a casual setting and will have “open play” times, during which any registered students may show up to play.

In order to register for intramural sports, students should go to IMLeagues.com and create an account using their school email (ending with @gustavus.edu). Students can then select their desired sport and league and either create or join a team to play. Students who wish to volunteer as referees for the league can email intramurals@gustavus.edu to learn more.
