Megan Lipke ’25

“I appreciate doing the readings for class and getting to share ideas with fellow classmates and the professor.”

Megan decided on a major in History after taking her first History course at Gustavus and realizing that courses in the History Department were different from those she had taken in highschool. Since then, she has appreciated the opportunities in the History Department to “open my eyes to new perspectives and try to find the unanswered questions.”

She describes the atmosphere within the History Department as one that is discussion based and encourages students to synthesize information and make connections. Megan also appreciates the faculty in the department, who have provided her with resources and ideas for post-graduate opportunities, and who she has been able to form relationships with in and out of the classroom.

Her favorite professor in the department is Greg Kaster, who sparked her interest in history in the first place and is a supportive figure who always encourages her to pursue new opportunities. Overall, the faculty in the History Department have pushed Megan to gain new skills and seek various experiences, which has helped her build her career network and feel more confident in pursuing post-graduate opportunities.

Outside of the History Department, Megan is also involved on campus with other organizations, including Band, Choir, Big Partner Little Partner, and Swing Dance Club.
