Gymnastics Picks Up Conference Victory at Winona State

The Gustavus gymnastics team picked up a WIAC victory on the road Friday, defeating Winona State by a score of 184.800-183.150. The Gusties outscored the Warriors in bars, beam, and floor to take the victory, improving their team score for the fifth straight meet.

WINONA, Minn. — The Gustavus gymnastics team picked up a WIAC victory on the road Friday, defeating Winona State by a score of 184.800-183.150. The Gusties outscored the Warriors in bars, beam, and floor to take the victory, improving their team score for the fifth straight meet.

The Gusties shined on bars, getting a career- and season-best from Sophie Schmitz (Jr., Buffalo) at 9.275 for second overall, followed by Maddox Lee (Fy., Hugo) who placed third overall with a score of 9.250. Abby Willis (Jr., San Bernardino, Calif.) rounded out the Gusties’ top-3 on bars, posting a season- and career-high 9.150.

The Warriors dominated four of the top-5 spots on vault, with Emma Esteb (Sr., Woodbury) leading the Gusties tied for third with a score of 9.350.

On the beam, Esteb led the Gusties once again, posting a score of 9.375, good for third overall. Esteb was followed by Izzy Breitkreutz (Jr., Big Lake) in fourth at 9.325, a season- and career-best, and Lindsay Bangs (So., Owatonna) in fifth (9.250).

Olivia Jahnke (So., Hanover) posted a dominant performance in her floor routine, scoring a career- and season-high 9.575, good for second overall. Jahnke was followed by Esteb who tied for fourth with a season-high score of 9.400 on floor. Lili Guy (So., Glendale Heights, Ill.) finished with a 9.300 on floor, becoming the fifth Gustie to set a new career-best against the Warriors.

The Gusties finished with a 46.475 on vault, 45.275 on bars, 46.250 on beam, and 46.800 on floor. The Gusties return to action next weekend, hosting UW-Stout on Friday at 6 p.m.
