Gusties Post a Pair of 3-0 Victories

The Gusties, who dropped the first match of the invite 3-1 to UW-Stevens Point on Friday, opened Saturday’s action with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-13 sweep over Grinnell, before completing their second 3-0 sweep with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-21 victory over host Loras.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Having just faced their first two losses of the season in their last two matches, the Gustavus volleyball team was determined to regroup, and the Gusties did so in convincing fashion.

The Gusties, who dropped the first match of the invite 3-1 to UW-Stevens Point on Friday, opened Saturday’s action with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-13 sweep over Grinnell, before completing their second 3-0 sweep with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-21 victory over host Loras.

Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.) and Marlee Turn (Jr., Kennedy) led the way for Gustavus against Grinnell, hammering out 14 and 13 kills each. Kasie Tweet (Jr., Adrian) dished out a team-high 25 assists and Maren Sundberg (Fy., Eagan) delivered a team-leading 20 digs. Turn added 14 digs for her fifth double-double on the season, while Tweet also notched a double-double, adding 13 digs to her 24 assists.

Turn was the team’s kill leader against Loras as well, posting 11, with Elliott and Lauren Klaith (Jr., Rockford) chipping in 10 kills each. Tweet eclipsed the 20-assist mark once again, dishing out 22 helpers, while Sundberg notched a team-best 13.

The Gusties (9-2 overall) kick off conference play on Wednesday, heading to St. Paul, Minn., for a 7 p.m. showdown with Macalester.
