SAINT PETER, Minn. – After keeping Augsburg on edge to a one goal loss on Friday night, the Gustavus men’s hockey was shut out by fourth ranked Augsburg 6-0. With the loss, the Gusties move to 5-12-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the MIAC.
Augsburg got on the board seven minutes into the first period, and added on a second goal off of a power play four minutes later. Gustavus dominated in offensive pressure, outshooting the Auggies 11-8 before closing out the first period.
The Auggies came into the second frame on a hot start tacking on a trio of goals and upped their shots to 11, to the Gusties seven. Gustavus stepped up on their physical play but couldn’t make much happen in front of the net.
Two minutes into the third period, the Auggies netted their final goal to complete the series sweep.
Gustavus kept the shots close at 21-24 but couldn’t get past the conference leading net-minder, Samuel Vyletelka.
The Gusties will host Saint Mary’s for a postponed non-conference game on Tuesday night with a 7:00 puck drop.
