Swimming and Diving Off to a Strong Start After Day One of Point Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Gustavus swim and dive teams got out to a strong start winning 10 out of 18 opening events of the Point Invite. The Gustie women finished day one ahead of Stevens Point 738-510 while the Gustie men scored 646 to the Pointers 537.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Gustavus swim and dive teams got out to a strong start winning 10 out of 18 opening events of the Point Invite. The Gustie women finished day one ahead of Stevens Point 738-510 while the Gustie men scored 646 to the Pointers 537.

The women kicked off the meet winning the 200 Free Relay; the team of Ellen Hofstede, Marit Isaacson, Abby Yartz, and Lucy Peterson touched first at 1:38.68.

Newcomer Isaacson tacked on another top finish in the 200 IM (2:14.82) while Junior Ellen Hofstede placed first in the 100 Free, touching the wall at 53.54. Additionally, first-year Mikayla Witte claimed the top spot in the 200 Fly (2:20.57).

The Gustie women had a strong finish in the final relay; Isaacson, Leah Soukup, Hofstede, and Peterson ended the night with a 4:07.75 time in the 400 Medley relay.

The Gustie men also took the win in the 200 Free Relay; Andrew Becker, Dane Hudson, Kieran Ripken, and Erik Small had a final time of 1:26.77.

Sophomore Matt Strom finished first in the 500 Free (4:42.45). Junior Dane Hudson turned in a top finish in the 100 Backstroke (53.63). Coming off of MIAC Athlete of the Week honors, Andrew Becker won in the 100 Free (47.19). Sophomore Brady Boie kept the winning momentum going for Gustavus in the 200 Fly (2:07.45).

The Gusties are back in action for day two on Saturday with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. and finals starting at 4:00 p.m..
