MANKATO, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in their first meet of the year Friday at the Minnesota State University-Mankato Invitational.

“We had a lot of first-years making their collegiate debut today, Head Coach Aaron Lund said. “I was impressed with how well they did and excited to see their impact on the team this year. We are a well balanced team with a lot of potential. Today was a great experience to get the season started. Today showed our team where they are at and what they need to work on moving forward. And also showed the coaching staff where we need to make adjustments and what to focus on. There was a good number of the team that established new indoor personal bests at the first meet of the year which was great to see.”

The men’s 600-meter was won by Sam Schultze with a time of 1:32.54. Jack Marble took second in the 800-meter at 2:01.86. Cole Matetich placed third in the high jump with a leap 6-2.75. The Gustie men scored 66 points to finish third out of eight teams.

Elizabeth Donnelly highlighted the Gustie women by winning the 800-meter, finishing in 2:19.42. Madi Kes had a second place performance in the triple jump, clearing 36-7.75. Annika Poe finished third in the shot put with a throw of 42-9. The Gustie women scored 133.5 points to place second out of four teams.
