Redding, Corbett Named WIAC Gymnasts of the Week

MADISON, Wis. – Gustavus student-athletes Sophia Redding (Sr., St. Paul) and Annie Corbett (Jr., Brookfield, Wis.) have been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Gymnastics Athletes of the Week. Redding is the Specialist of the Week and Corbett is the All-Around Gymnast of the Week.

MADISON, Wis. – Gustavus student-athletes Sophia Redding (Sr., St. Paul) and Annie Corbett (Jr., Brookfield, Wis.) have been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Gymnastics Athletes of the Week. Redding is the Specialist of the Week and Corbett is the All-Around Gymnast of the Week.

Redding led the Golden Gusties on two events in their season opener dual meet loss to UW-La Crosse on Jan 7. She earned a career high on the uneven bars, while taking home a first-place finish with a score of 9.600. She bested her personal best by .275 and earn her a place in the Gustavus Adolphus record books as the third-highest score in program history. Redding was also the team leader on the vault, making her comeback on the event after an almost three-year gap. She scored a 9.325, taking fourth place in the event. Additionally, Redding scored a 8.800 on balance beam. Her strong efforts lead Gustavus Adolphus to their second-highest opening meet score in program history, a 181.975. 

Corbett took home two event titles and another top-two finish. She won the all-around competition with a 36.875 and the balance beam with a 9.625. Additionally, Corbett placed second in the floor exercise with a 9.425. Corbett’s other events were an 8.800 on vault and an 8.950 on bars. Her strong competition helped fuel the Golden Gusties to their second-highest opening meet score in program history, a 181.975.
