GRINNELL, Iowa – The Gustavus women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams impressed in winning finishes at the Pioneer Classic. The Gustie women won first out of 11 teams with a score 1,667.5 while the Gustie men won out of eight teams with a score of 1,507.5.

Ellen Hofstede (Jr., Hopkins) broke the meet and pool record in the 100 Free with a time of 51.25 (nine year record), the meet record in the 100 IM (1:00.48), and the 50 free (23.60) which was previously held by Maggie Webster ’18 (24.44). Gustavus kept the momentum going, setting meet record in the 200 Free Relay (Hofstede, Isaacson, Yartz, Peterson) with a 1:35.64 time previously set by the Gusties in 2017 (1:38.75), while Mikayla Witte (Fy., Glencoe), Leah Soukup (So., Eagan), Hofstede, and Peterson tied the 200 Medley Relay meet record (1:50.80).

The Gustie men also came away with top notch performances in the Pioneer Classic. Andrew Becker (Jr., Northfield),  Peyton Richardson (So., Crystal Lake, Ill.), Dane Hudson (Jr., Eden Prairie), and Kieran Ripken (So., Blaine) set a new meet record in the 200 Free Relay, posting a time of 1:25.05, breaking the previous record held by the Gusties in 2019 (1:25.43).
