ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team traveled to Saint John’s on Thursday night where they took a 5-1 loss and move to 2-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the MIAC.

Saint John’s struck first in the fourth minute in for a 1-0 lead and despite the fast paced Gustie offense, the Johnnies led on shots 12-11 before closing out the first period.

Five minutes into the second period, fresh off of a penalty kill, Tyler Ebner (Sr., La Crosse, Wis.) scored an equalizer on a wrap-around goal unassisted. Seven minutes later, a Johnnie wrist shot proved solid for a 2-1 lead. Saint John’s scored their third with five minutes left and tacked on another 20 seconds later.

Halfway through the third period, the Johnnies notched their fifth and final goal in the Gustie loss.

Grant Boldt (Fy., Frazee) powered through with 41 saves and Ebner led the team with five shots.

Gustavus looks to make it back when they host Saint John’s on Saturday night for a 7:00 puck drop.
