NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In a conference matchup of two nationally ranked opponents, Gustavus at 20 and St. Olaf at 17, the Gusties suffered a 4-2 loss and fall to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC.
Gustavus got on the board first 17 minutes in when Cole Schwartz (Sr., Jakarta, Indonesia) passed to Owen Johnson (So., Apple Valley), Johnson found Matthew Gibbons (Sr., Minneapolis) in front of the net who then shot it to the back post. The Oles responded five minutes later and evened the match. Gustavus continued to put pressure on, outshooting St. Olaf 9-4 before Otis Anderson (Jr., Minneapolis) scored on a penalty kick for 2-1 Gustie lead at halftime.
St. Olaf entered the second half with the stronger attack and cut through Gustie defenders to score ten minutes into period two to tie the score at 2-2. Hakeem Morgan added his second of the game after scoring a rebound off of the post which proved to be the game winner. Despite the Gusties efforts, a final Ole penalty kick ended the match at 4-2.
Wesley Sanders (Jr., Urbandale, Iowa) suffered the loss and made five saves in the match.
Gustavus is back in action when they host UW-Whitewater on Sunday with a 1:00 kick-off.
