Women’s Soccer Hosts Dubuque Monday in Home Opener

The Gustavus women’s soccer team is set to play its first game on the Gustie Soccer Field since Nov. 2, 2019 with a non-conference matchup against the University of Dubuque at noon Monday. Both teams enter the Labor Day contest 1-1 overall.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team is set to play its first game on the Gustie Soccer Field since Nov. 2, 2019 with a non-conference matchup against the University of Dubuque at noon Monday. Both teams enter the Labor Day contest 1-1 overall.

The Series: The Labor Day matchup marks the first ever meeting between the Gustavus and Dubuque women’s soccer programs. Dubuque is a member of the American Rivers Conference.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus has started the 2021 season 1-1 in non-conference action, opening the season with a 2-1 win at Central before suffering a 2-1 loss at UW-Platteville on Friday night. After two games, Katie Ashpole (Sr., Chaska) leads the team with two goals – one in each game. Elin Swenson (Fy., Uppsala, Sweden) has the team’s other goal. Lauren Miller (Fy., Brooklyn Park) and Page Cocchiarella (Sr., Owatonna) each have one assist. Abby Goodno (Sr., Little Canada) made the start in goal against Central and earned the win after making eight saves with one goal allowed. Leah Pavlish (Sr., Prior Lake) started against UW-Platteville and allowed two goals while making three saves.

Scouting the Spartans: Dubuque started its season last Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Grinnell before suffering a 3-1 loss at Bethel on Saturday. Brooke Brodzinski and Riley Vondrasek have Dubuque’s two goals this season. Emma Kober and Emmerson Wilson each have an assist. Cadence Martindale has played all 180 minutes in goal, allowing three goals with 10 saves and a 1-1 record.
