Aney, Budde Move On to NCAA Doubles Semifinals

The Gustavus men’s tennis duo of Nick Aney (Jr., Rochester) and Alex Budde (So., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) are moving on to the NCAA Doubles Semifinals after defeating Daniel Blonquist and Marcos Dias of Southern Virginia 6-2, 6-1 Saturday at The Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Gustavus men’s tennis duo of Nick Aney (Jr., Rochester) and Alex Budde (So., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) are moving on to the NCAA Doubles Semifinals after defeating Daniel Blonquist and Marcos Dias of Southern Virginia 6-2, 6-1 Saturday at The Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park.

Nick and Alex played another excellent match today,” Head Coach Tommy Valentini said. “They competed with great energy and handled the moment very well. They both served at a high level and executed our game plan nicely. They’re having a blast on the court and representing our program beautifully. We’re thankful to come through today and look forward to tomorrow’s challenges.”

Aney and Budde are the first Gusties to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships since Amrik Donkena ’13 and Mya Smith-Dennis ’14 took second place in 2012.

Aney and Budde will square off against the winner of Hopper/Chen of Case Western Reserve and Chen/Tzeng of Brandeis at 12:30 p.m. CST Sunday. The winner advances to the national championship at 2 p.m.
