SAINT PAUL, Minn. – After day one of the MIAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which mostly featured non-scored preliminary races, Gustavus sits in third place out of 10 teams with 30 points. St. Thomas leads the meet with 71 points.
Taylor Rooney (Sr., Andover) advanced to the finals in three track events and scored in one field event. Rooney won the 110-hurdle prelims with a new meet record time of 13.83. He then took sixth in the 100-meter prelims with a time of 11.13 and finished second in the 200-meter prelims at 22.14. Rooney rounded out day one with a fifth-place final in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters.
Wyatt Quiring (Jr., Fairmont) will join Rooney in the 200-meter finals after taking fourth in the prelims at 22.47. Quiring also won the 400-meter prelims, crossing the line in 49.10. Seth Zeitchick (So., Saint Paul) advanced to the 400 finals as well with a third place time of 50.20.
The 10,000-meter was contested as a final and Andrew Stumbo (Sr., Boone, Iowa) earned All-Conference honors with a third-place finish in 30:51.65. Garet Grant (Jr., Winona) took eighth in 31.46.13 and Casey Olson (Sr., Harmony) was next in 31:47.85.
The 4×800 relay team of Jack Marble (So., Eden Prairie), Tucker Wallin (So., Red Wing), Trigg Capistrant-Kinney (So., Minnetrista), and Noah Johnson (Jr., Stillwater) took sixth in 8:05.62.
All field events are contested as finals. Xander DuMoulin (Jr., Shorewood) earned All-Conference in the long jump, taking second place with a leap of 6.88 meters. Josh Beiswanger (So., Mankato) took fourth in the hammer throw with a heave of 52.82 meters, while Steven Orzolek (Jr., Darwin) placed sixth at 51.81 meters.
The final day of the MIAC Championships begins at noon Saturday.
