INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Committees selected the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles NCAA Championships and three Gustavus student-athletes have been picked.

Ginger Valentine (Sr., Delano) will compete in the women’s singles tournament, Nick Aney (Jr., Rochester) will compete in the men’s singles draw, and then Aney will team with Alex Budde (So., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) for the doubles tournament. The selection to the NCAA Championships is the first for all three Gustie athletes.

Valentine played exclusively at No. 1 singles this season and holds an 11-3 overall record. She posted a 7-2 mark in the MIAC, earning All-Conference honors.

Aney also played exclusively at No. 1 singles this season with a 3-4 overall record. Teaming with Budde at No. 1 doubles, the duo has recorded an overall record of 10-3.

For the individual championships, the national committee selected a percentage of singles players and doubles teams from each of the four regions. The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The team championship will take place May 24-26, while the individual championships will be May 28-30, both at Champions Tennis Club, Chattanooga, Tenn., hosted by the University of the South and the Chattanooga Sports Commission.
