MANKATO, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at the Maverick Classic, hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato, on Friday for their final tune up before next weekend’s MIAC Outdoor Championships.
“Today was an amazing tune up for a good number of the team,” Assistant Coach Brenden Huber said. “We saw a lot of solid marks in multiple areas.”
The women’s 4×100 relay team of Victoria Adebisi, Madi Kes, Paige Patterson, and Birgen Nelson clocked a time of 49.45, taking third place. The time ranks second in program history and is the fastest since 1998.
Molly Weberg took fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:43.32. Trevor LaVinge led the Gusties in the men’s steeple at 10:12.70.
Taylor Rooney won the 110-hurdles in 14.15.
In the women’s 400-meter, Adebisi placed 16th in 1:03.06. The Gustie men were led by Noah Johnson in the 400 at 51.19. Trigg Capistrant-Kinney took 13th in the 800-meter at 2:03.93.
In the women’s 400-hurdles, Taylor Thompson placed 13th in 1:15.81. Nelson led the Gusties in the women’s 200 with a time of 25.74.
In the 5k, Iliana Ramon took fifth in 19:24.96, followed by Lily Engebretson in sixth at 19:39.34. The men’s 5k was won by Matt Payne in 16:03.95, followed by Lucas Schnirring in second at 16:15.81.
Alyssa Hegde took 32nd in the 1500-meter, crossing the line in 5:36.29.
In the field events, Dana Bach took 21st in the hammer throw with a distance of 120-9.25. Steven Orzolek took third for the men with a toss of 167-9.5.
Rachel Erickson took fifth in the javelin with a toss of 104-2.75. Luke Dragseth took fifth at 124-11.25.
Doris-Klein Mor tied for seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10-6.75. Ben Urbaniak cleared 12-0.5 for the men, taking seventh.
Kes leaped 17-1.25 in the long jump for 11th place. Alex Fette took eighth for the men at 21-2.
Halley Brocker cleared 5-0.25 in the high jump for 11th place. Evan Wieker led the men in fourth with a height of 5-11.
Nicole Nelson took 11th in the shot put with a throw of 35-1. For the men, Orzolek took third at 53-7.75.
Kes won the women’s triple jump with a distance of 38-0. Xander DuMoulin took third for the men at 45-1.5.
In the discus, Annalee Olson-Sola threw 112-10.5 for 17th place.
“Tonight was great overall for the distance crew,” Huber said. “We had PRs all around for our steeplers and 5kers. It was very rewarding to see our group’s hard efforts from the season finally validated with results. Very proud of how hard they’ve worked this year and great seeing season PRs, conference qualifiers, and lifetime PRs. Our night was capped off by an inspired PR run by Alyssa Hegde in the 1500. A lot of amazing energy headed into championship week.”
Gustavus next competes at the MIAC Championships next weekend at Hamline.
