Volleyball Ends Season With Loss at St. Olaf

The Gustavus volleyball team Monday lost in three sets at St. Olaf by scores of 25-23, 28-26, and 25-21. The Gusties wrap up their truncated spring season with a 4-3 overall record.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team Monday lost in three sets at St. Olaf by scores of 25-23, 28-26, and 25-21. The Gusties wrap up their truncated spring season with a 4-3 overall record.

The Gusties started the first set with a 3-2 lead but four consecutive Ole points gave the home team the lead and it never trailed the rest of the way. The Gusties were able to tie the score three times and were within one point late at 24-23, but the Oles were able to close out the opening frame.

St. Olaf jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the second set and created some separation midway through at 16-10 before the Gusties rallied with a 12-7 run, cutting the deficit to one at 23-22. The Oles held set point after the next rally, but the Gusties answered with three straight points to hold set point at 25-24. The home team once again rallied and claimed four of the last five volleys for the 28-26 win.

Gustavus started strong in the third with a 7-2 lead, but the Oles answered with seven straight points to gain a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Courtney Peterson (So., Jamestown, S.D.) led the offense with 15 kills on 25 attempts and just one error for a .560 hitting percentage. Kasie Tweet (Fy., Adrian) quarterbacked the offense with 28 assists. Hailey Embacher (Sr., Mankato) led the back line with eight digs.
