MONTICELLO, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team finished day one of the St. John’s Spring Invitational on Saturday. The team unofficially ranks tenth with a total score of 309 (+21).
“Kudos to Jacob Pedersen who shot a great round despite being in some tough situations but he found a way to score,” said Coach Randall Stuckey “That’s the strength of his game getting up and down from situations when you don’t hit your best shot. He gave a clinic with his outstanding putting today. The rest of the guys had a tough day with inconsistent ball striking and had a tough time getting up and down for par. We left ourselves in situations where we needed to make long putts for pars. We made some of them but those putts are not always going to go in. Tomorrow is going to be a good challenge with the weather but this will be our final round before our conference tournament next weekend.”
Jacob Pedersen (Jr., Minnetonka) currently leads the event overall after shooting a 70 (-2). Wyatt Wasko (So., Lake Elmo) finished the day with a 78 score (+6) ranking 36th and Tommy Hiniker (Fy., Edina) sits a stroke behind after shooting a 79 (+7) and ties in 44th. Andrew Hoppe (So., Mankato) recorded an 82 (+10) and Sam Skaar (Jr., Bovey) rounded out the scores with an 84 (+12).
The team competes on Sunday for day two of the event.
