WAVERLY, Iowa – The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in first place after the first day of the Wartburg Spring Invite with a total score of 324 (+44) with Grinnell College trailing behind them by one stroke.

We were challenged by a tough course today and didn’t play what we were capable of,” said Coach Randall Stuckey “After playing the course for the first time I think we will be much more comfortable tomorrow. The entire team hung in there and grinded out the best scores they could. I was very happy with their effort.”

Individually, Laurel Ward (So., Bozeman, Mont.) and Sydney Regaldo (Jr., Rosemount) tied third overall posting a 79 (+9), and Emily Kratz (Jr., Edina) is tied in ninth with a score of 82 (+12).

The team competes again at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
