NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s track & field team started competition at the Carleton Relays on Friday evening with a few distance races and throwing events.

Steven Orzolek (Jr., Darwin) won both of his throwing events. Orzolek placed first in the shot put with a distance of 16.03 meters, and won the hammer throw with a toss of 48.66 meters. Ben Urbaniak (Fy., Anoka) took third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.52 meters. Luke Dragseth (So., Milwaukee, Wis.) placed fourth in the javelin at 38.12 meters.

In the track events, Jack Marble (So., Eden Prairie) ran 2:00.93 in the 800-meter to take fourth place. Tucker Wallin (So., Red Wing) also placed fourth in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:05.56. Henry Hinchcliffe (So., Austin) took second inthe 5000-meter at 15:20.31.

“I’m excited to see what the coming weeks hold for our men’s team with all the shaving time off tonight across the board,” Assistant Coach Becki Staley said of the distance runners. “Tucker went from 4:09 to 4:04 in the men’s 1500 and I see room for even more improvement and faster times for Tucker. I see sub-4:00 in coming weeks. Nathan Scruggs (Sr., Mankato) had a lifetime best in the 1500 of 4:15 it is great to see Nate healthy and running fast. In the men’s 800, Jack Marble ran quick again and with some tweaking of tactics I can see him running sub 2:00. Trigg Capistrant-Kinney (So., Minnetrista) was just outside of the time needed for the fast heat tonight but ran great and cut time. Corbin Michaels (So., Shakopee) and Zane Michael (Jr., Ashland, Ohio) looked solid and also cut time in the men’s 800. Our freshmen look solid which is great the first year can always be bumpy but I’m proud of how they have handled adversity this season and still had great effort tonight.”
The Gusties continue competition at the Carleton Relays on Saturday.
