MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team traveled to Minneapolis on Thursday night where they took a 1-0 win to move to 2-0 overall. The win on Edor Nelson field was the first since 2005.

What a great team win tonight,” said Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie. “It was incredible to see the team come out with such energy and out together a 90 minute performance. We constantly talk about playing for each other and with each other and that truly showed tonight. We could not be more proud of our team effort.”

Both teams entered the first period with strong defensive efforts. Gustavus was able to outshoot Augsburg seven to three but the game remained scoreless through the first half.

After impressive saves from both goaltenders, 21 minutes into the second frame Taylor Hemme (Sr., Eden Prairie) chipped the goalie, scoring in the top right corner for the game-winning goal of the night.

Every time we play Augsburg it’s a great battle and tonight was no different. Our team played tough, moved the ball super well, created a lot of dangerous opportunities and handled their talented attack with poise and confidence. Posting a shutout against any MIAC opponent is always an impressive feat and tonight was no different.”

Abby Goodno (Jr., Little Canada) got the start in net for the Gusties and Justine Holm (So., Shakopee) made 5 saves in the second half to shut out the Auggies.

The team will get its first home start when they host St. Olaf on Sunday afternoon for senior day at 12:30
