Late Goal Drops Men’s Hockey 3-2 at Hamline

The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost 3-2 Saturday night against Hamline at the TRIA Rink. The Gusties drop to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC, while the Pipers improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost 3-2 Saturday night against Hamline at the TRIA Rink. The Gusties drop to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC, while the Pipers improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

It only took Gustavus 52 seconds to score the game’s first score as Will LeNeave (Sr., Orono) tallied his first goal of the season with the help of Tyler Ebner (Jr., La Crosse, Wis.). Hamline was quick to respond, though, as it netted the equalizer at the 3:11 mark. After the first 20 minutes the score remained 1-1.

The Pipers jumped in front 2-1 at the 1:34 mark of the second period and held that lead throughout the middle frame. With the pressure mounting late in the third, Patrick Gazich (Sr., Minnetonka) slapped home a goal from the point with 6:38 remaining in regulation to tie the score. Dan Sandvig (Jr., Savage) was credited with the assist. Fresh off a power play, the Pipers were able to regain the lead with 1:46 on the clock for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Gustavus edged Hamline 36-34 in shots. Both teams were unsuccessful on the power play; the Gusties went 0-4 and the Pipers went 0-5.

Robbie Goor (Sr., Anoka) suffered the loss in net after making 31 saves.

The Gusties are back in action Monday night as they travel to Saint John’s.
