Men’s Hockey Blanked by St. Thomas

The Gustavus men’s hockey team Thursday was shut out 3-0 by St. Thomas. The Gusties drop to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC, while the Tommies improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team Thursday was shut out 3-0 by St. Thomas. The Gusties drop to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC, while the Tommies improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

St. Thomas scored what proved to be the game-winner 3:20 into the first period with an unassisted goal and held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Tommies scored their second goal 1:31 into the second period and added the third late in the second. Neither team scored in the third.

St. Thomas outshot the Gusties 29-19. The Tommies had five power play opportunities, converting on one. The Gusties went 0-1 on the man-advantage.

Filip Grancarov (So., Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) made 26 saves in his third career start.

Gustavus travels to Hamline on Saturday for a 7 p.m. MIAC contest.
