SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams hosted Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s on Sunday and both swam away with victories. The Gustie men defeated the Johnnies 230-67, while the Gustie women beat the Bennies 197.5-99.5.

“It was just good to get one more day of racing in before we really head into taper and start preparing for March 6 and 7,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said. “I know the team is pretty fired up, but they’re broken down. They’re tired and they swam tired today yet were still able to pop off some great times. I was very excited for the team and their performance today.”

The Gustie women won 12 of 18 events during the day. Ellen Hofstede (So., Hopkins) paced the squad with three individual wins and two relay victories. The 400 free relay team of Hofstede, Amelia Bjorklund (Sr., Bloomington), Abby Yartz (So., Bemidji), and Lucy Peterson (Fy., Saint Paul) set a pool record with a time of 3:35.77. Hofstede also won the 100 free, 200 free, 100 butterfly, and was part of the winning 200 free relay with Bjorklund, Yartz, and Peterson.

The Gustie men won 15 of 18 events throughout the meet. Nolan Larson (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa) claimed five victories, including four individual events and one relay.
