The dual meet comes two weeks after the Gusties’ last MIAC competition when the men and women swam against Augsburg, Concordia, and Hamline on Feb. 6. The Gusties dominated the meet, winning all 28 events during the day. The women’s 200 medley team of Evie Lima (Fy., Neenah, Wis.), Hailey Auran (Sr., Saint Paul), Ellen Hofstede (So., Hopkins), and Lucy Peterson (Fy., Saint Paul) posted a time of 1:48.94, which was just over a second from breaking the pool record, while the 200 free relay team of Hofstede, Peterson, Abby Yartz (So., Bemidji), and Amelia Bjorklund (Sr., Bloomington) broke the previous pool record by .12 of a second with a time of 1:37.72. The previous pool record stood for eight years. The 200 free relay team’s time of 1:37.72 ranks No. 1 in NCAA Division III.
Hofstede also won the 100 free with a time of 51.93, ranking first in Division III. She also ranks sixth in the nation in the 50 free with a time of 24.59. For her performance, Hofstede was selected MIAC Swimmer of the Week.
As he has done for most of his Gustie career, Nolan Larson (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa) highlighted the men’s team with a pair of individual event victories during the Gusties’ last dual meet. He won the 200 butterfly in 1:57.94, which was more than six seconds faster than second place, while he also won the 100 butterfly in 51.21, which was over two seconds faster than second place and ranks 13th in Division III. For his performance, Larson was named MIAC Swimmer of the Week. Callen Zemek (So., Victoria) won the 1000 free with a time of 9:56.21, which ranks seventh in Division III.
