The Google Workspace Marketplace offers the ability to enhance the experience provided by Google Workspace by integrating with other third-party apps such as Zoom. Although this provides benefits, there are also additional risks as well. Installing a third party app from the marketplace will increase the risk of data exposure since the information available in your Google account may now be accessible to this third party app.
Recently Google has added additional controls to reduce this risk by adding a “Google verified” status that reduces the risk by ensuring the app adheres to security and privacy requirements. Google also added the ability to restrict access to install third-party apps without additional verification. This new feature will be enabled on all Gustavus accounts on November 11. This may cause existing apps that are not verified to stop working. Any unverified apps will require contacting the Technology Helpline for approval before installation. Making this change will significantly reduce our risk of unauthorized data disclosure by ensuring only verified apps are in use.
