Join the Weekly

Jay Erickson-

New year, new Weekly. If you are a First-year or simply looking for a new, fun activity, you should join The Gustavian Weekly. The Weekly encourages anyone who loves to write to join the staff. We are looking for news and sports writers as well as photographers. We foster a welcoming environment where anyone (and everyone!) can thrive. Also, joining The Weekly staff comes with many benefits: social, educational, and professional.

In The Weekly’s office, conversation is constantly flowing. If you enjoy talking about music, memes, classes, and everything in between, you should absolutely join. Even if you’re shy, you will be welcomed. Even sitting and listening in on the chaos is totally fine; you’re certain to get some laughs.

Writing for The Weekly is also a great way to become a better writer for your classes and in life outside of college. Learning a newspaper’s style and figuring out how to stick to it allows you to develop writing skills without the taunting grade attached. You will also gain time management skills. With new issues coming out every week, you have to learn how to manage your time to get the article out before the issue goes to print.

Working on publications like The Weekly looks fantastic on a resume. Employers look for writing and editing experience on resumes because they symbolize critical thinking, teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills. After all, communicating with and interviewing peers and professors requires good rhetoric and professionalism.

If you can’t fit The Weekly in your schedule this year, don’t worry! Next year we will be looking to fill nearly every position as we sadly say goodbye to the class of 2025.
