Celebrate Children’s Book Week

Children's Book Week 2024 poster
The official 2024 Children’s Book Week poster was created by award-winning illustrator and author Sophie Blackall.
A colorful poster depicts a group of people of all ages riding in the tasseled basket of a hot air balloon. Everyone has a book, and the two adults lean out of the basket with their books in outstretched hands. The text on the balloon says, "Three cheers for books!" Below the basket, the additional text says, "Book Week November 10-16, 1963."
Three Cheers for Books, by Adrienne Adams, Book Week, 1963.

Join the Gustavus Library in celebrating Children’s Book Week (May 6-12), a celebration of children’s books and the joy of reading that started back in 1919. This year’s theme is No Rules. Just Read.

Take a break and visit our Children’s Book Week Display (Central Display, Library main floor), browse our Children’s Literature Collection (Library lower level), find award-winning children’s books in the library, or peruse the Cooperative Children’s Book Center’s 2023 data on diversity in books for children and teens.

This is a great time to think about the role of books in our own childhoods and how we can promote children’s access to books, literacy,  and the joy of reading today.
