Lauren MacLean ’24

“I was drawn to the minor of sport management because I am passionate about sports psychology and this was a great avenue for me to get more perspective of the different areas of sport.”

As a Psychology major, Lauren has always been interested in sports psychology and decided that a minor in Sports Management would engage this interest. She describes the environment of the Sports Management program as open and inviting, and she appreciates her professors’ enthusiasm and excitement about the new program, saying professors are “willing to help in any way to make sure students get class experience and also shadowing and live experience in the field.”

Lauren has also appreciated the engaging learning experiences that she has been able to participate in, such as guest speakers and being involved in various sporting events. As a program assistant, she has been able to work closely with the Sports Management faculty, and has enjoyed the support that she has received from them. She particularly values her relationship with Dr. Hayley Russell, who has been an encouraging figure for her, and has helped foster her passion for Sports Psychology. Dr. Russell has also helped Lauren in getting into a masters program at Minnesota State University Mankato in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology. She describes her as a genuine person who deeply cares about her students’ academic success. She says “Hayley has been such a great leader in getting the sport management major and minor and such an amazing mentor in my academic career.”

On campus, Lauren is also involved with the Pediatric Cancer Outreach Crew and Intramural Badminton.
