BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its women’s tennis postseason awards Tuesday and five Gusties earned All-Conference honors, highlighted by Molly Austin (Fy., Arden Hills) garnering the inaugural MIAC Rookie of the Year Award.
In her first year at Gustavus, Austin posted a 23-7 overall record in singles play, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the MIAC. Austin played the bulk of the season at No. 3 singles where she went 11-0. She finished her singles season on a 10-match winning streak. In doubles play, Austin went 22-9 overall and 8-2 in the MIAC. Austin paired with Allison Szalay (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa) at No. 1 doubles for most of the season where the duo went 17-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
Both Austin and Szalay earned All-Conference in singles and doubles. Szalay went 21-11 overall in singles and 8-1 in the MIAC. She played most of the season at No. 2 singles with a 13-7 record. In doubles, Szalay went 22-8 overall and 7-2 in the league.
Yuki Oda (Sr., Kawasaki, Japan) and Alli Laux (Jr., Onalaska, Wis.) joined Austin and Szalay on both All-MIAC singles and doubles teams. Oda, who earns her second straight All-MIAC singles honor, went 12-16 overall in singles and 5-4 in the conference. Oda played nearly the entire season at No. 1 singles with a 9-12 record. In doubles, Oda went 14-14 overall and 6-2 in the league. Oda had five different doubles partners throughout the season and earns her second straight All-MIAC doubles honor.
Laux posted a 22-11 overall record in singles and a perfect 10-0 mark in the league. Laux mostly played at No. 4 singles with a 9-0 record. Laux went 20-12 overall in doubles and 9-1 in the league. She mostly played with Renata Hernandez (Sr., Saint James) at No. 3 doubles where the tandem went 13-6 overall and 11-6 in the three spot. Hernandez also earned All-Conference Doubles with a 17-11 overall record and 9-1 mark in the league.
Brooke Haddorff (So., Eagan) earned All-Conference honorable mention in singles with a 13-5 overall record and 7-0 mark in the MIAC.
Austin and Laux were named to the inaugural All-Playoff Team.
