Women’s Tennis Drops First MIAC Match 6-3 to Carleton

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season Saturday at Rochester Tennis Connection as undefeated Carleton won 6-3. The Gusties drop to 16-12 overall and 8-1 in the MIAC, while the Knights improve to 17-0 overall and 9-0 in the league, securing at least a share of the MIAC regular season championship.

After being swept in doubles, the Gusties answered with three straight wins in singles. Alli Laux (Jr., Onalaska, Wis.) and Brooke Haddorff (So., Eagan) won at the Nos. 4 and 6 spots, respectively, in straight sets, while Molly Austin (Fy., Arden Hills) won at No. 3 in a super breaker 4-6, 6-2, 10-4. Carleton then won a super breaker at No. 1 and then clinched the match with another super breaker win at No. 2.

“It was another epic Carleton vs. Gustavus match,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said. “They took it to us in doubles but in singles there was a moment where there were four super breakers going on at the same time. We just weren’t able to come out on top in three of them. It could have gone either way. The team has put that behind them and are already focused on tomorrow at Macalester.”
