The Economics and Management Department is thrilled to announce the launch of the Economic Research and Communication Contest. This pilot program aims to encourage and recognize undergraduate scholarship in economics, and we invite all econ majors to participate.
The contest comprises two categories:
- Economic Research – an original research paper written as part of a course, independent study, or individual research during your time at Gustavus (group projects are also allowed).
- Economic Communication – submissions may take the form of a written blog, audio podcast, poster (submitted electronically) or video communicating important and timely economic phenomena; description of new and important research (by others); or policy papers based on the research of others.
$500 prize will be awarded to the winner in each category
Entry Deadline: May 15, 2023 (winners will be announced before the end of final exams)
Entries should be sent in PDF format to prof. Marta Podemska-Mikluch. The cover page should include the name(s) of the author(s), email address(es), and the title of the paper. Avoid providing identifying information on any page other than the cover page.
In the Fall, all entrants will receive complimentary registration to the Minnesota Economic Association Annual Conference, held every year in October at Hamline University. Winners will be encouraged to submit their entries to at least one of the following external contests:
- Minnesota Economic Association (MEA) the Annual Undergraduate Student Paper Contest
- Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE) Undergraduate Research Competition
- The Society for the Development of Austrian Economic Carl Menger Undergraduate Essay Contest (if appropriate)
We are grateful to the Schnell Family for their generous support in establishing the Chair in Econ-Capital Systems, which has made this contest possible.
