MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s swim & dive team extended its lead atop the team rankings Friday at the MIAC Championships, while the women sit in second place in a close battle for tomorrow’s title race. The men have 682.5 points with a 177-point buffer, while the women have 434 points, trailing St. Kate’s by 18.
Erik Small (Sr., Hudson, Wis.) and Ryan Kawlewski (Sr., Sauk Rapids) went first and third in the men’s 400 IM with times of 4:00.27 and 4:05.56, respectively. Ellen Hofstede (Sr., Saint Paul) then took second place in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 56.80. The men swept the top three All-Conference finishes in the 100 butterfly with Peyton Richardson (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill.) at 49.39, Andrew Becker (Sr., Northfield) at 50.02, and Dane Hudson (Sr., Eden Prairie) at 50.29.
Matt Strom (Jr., Rochester) won the men’s 200 free in 1:40.37. Lindsay Sundby (Fy., Cannon Falls) then took third in the women’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.08. Kieran Ripken (Jr., Blaine) and Nyden Hill (So., Conway, Ark.) went first and third in the men’s 100 breaststroke with times of 55.77, an NCAA B cut, and 56.76, respectively. Marit Isaacson (So., Saint Paul) followed with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke at 57.37.
On the men’s three-meter board, Andrew Jensen (Jr., Wyoming) took fourth with a NCAA B cut score of 392.70. The women finished their night with a win in the 200 free relay. Lucy Peterson (Jr., Saint Paul), Isaacson, Abby Yartz (Sr., Bemidji), and Hofstede clocked a 2022 Selection Time of 1:33.82. The men also closed the night with a championship in the 200 free relay as Ripken, Small, Hudson, and Becker recorded a NCAA B cut time of 1:21.57.
Saturday’s fourth and final day of the conference championship begins with prelims at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
