SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team suffered a series sweep after a 4-1 loss to Hamline on Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Gusties fall to 3-16-2 overall and 1-10-1 in the MIAC.
After a scoreless first period, the Pipers took the first lead at the 1:30 mark of the second. Five minutes later, they gained a 2-0 advantage with a power play goal and then made it 3-0 at the 12:17 mark with their second power play goal.
The Gusties ended the shutout at the 9:11 mark of the third on a power play goal from Stanislav Danaev (Jr., Moscow, Russia), assisted by Brandon Sloth (Fy., Anoka) and Joey Gimberlin (So., Mendota Heights). Hamline put a stamp on the victory with an empty net goal with three seconds left in the game.
Hamline outshot the Gusties 25-22. Jackson Hjelle (Jr., Delano) made 21 saves.
Gustavus travels to Concordia for two games in Moorhead next weekend.
