SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey lost 3-2 at Hamline on Friday night, dropping to 3-15-2 overall and 1-9-1 in the MIAC.

Nick Mountain (Fy., Woodbury) got the scoring going at the 5:46 mark of the first period with an unassisted goal, his second of the season, but the Pipers answered 12 seconds later with an unassisted goal of their own and the score remained 1-1 after the first.

Hamline gained a 2-1 lead at the 15:39 mark of the second, but the Gusties returned the favor just nine seconds later as Micah Gernander (So., Coleraine) scored his second goal of the season with the help of Kyle Heffron (So., Rosemount). A scary moment happened with less than two minutes left in the second as Toby Sengvongxay (Sr., Luverne) hit the boards and was stretchered off the ice. Play resumed after the ice was resurfaced as the final minute of the second period was completed and the game rolled right into the third.

The Pipers regained the lead at the 4:09 mark of the third with a power play goal. With an empty net and an extra attacker in the final minute, Heffron appeared to have scored the equalizer as time expired, but the official waved off the goal and Hamline escaped with the one-goal victory.

The Pipers outshot the Gusties 32-22 as Jackson Hjelle (Jr., Delano) made 29 saves. The Gusties went 0-for-4 on the power play and Hamline went 1-for-3.

The MIAC series wraps up tomorrow night in Saint Peter at 7 p.m.
