GRINNELL, Iowa – The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams both sit in first place after day one of the Grinnell Pioneer Classic. The Gustie men have 284 points and lead second place Grinnell by 22 points, while the Gustie women have 280 points and lead second place Carleton by over 100 points.
First place finishes for the Gustie men include the 200 free relay team of Dane Hudson (Sr., Eden Prairie), Kieran Ripken (Jr., Blaine), Erik Small (Sr., Hudson, Wis.), and Andrew Becker (Sr., Northfield) in 1:23.26; Matt Strom (Jr., Rochester) in the 500 free at 4:49.11; Becker in the 50 free at 20.86, the 400 medley relay team of Peyton Richardson (Jr., Crystal, Lake, Ill.), Ripken, Hudson, and Becker in 3:29.40; and Andrew Jensen (Jr., Wyoming) in the three-meter dive with 419.60 points.
First place finishes for the Gustie women include Marit Isaacson (So., St. Paul) in the 200 IM at 2:13.21; Lucy Peterson (Jr., St. Paul) in the 50 free at 24.20, and the 400 medley relay team of Mikayla Witte (So., Glencoe), Leah Soukup (Jr., Eagan), Isaacson, and Peterson in 4:06.78.
Session two begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, session three diving will be between 2-4 p.m., while session four begins at 5 p.m.
