MEN’S RESULTS | WOMEN’S RESULTS
DESTIN, Fla. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s golf teams completed their fall seasons Tuesday at the Golfweek DIII Invite. The Gustie men tied for 21st place with a three-round total of 299-305-301-905, while the women finished 23rd with a score of 337-324-330-991. Emory University won both the men’s and women’s competitions in a field of the best Division III teams in the country.
Kristin Martens (Sr., Sartell) and Zada Olig (Sr., Wayzata) finished their college golf careers on Tuesday. Martens took 107th place with a score of 95-79-82-256, while Olig finished 115th at 96-94-96-286.
“Can’t thank Zada and Kristin enough for how they carried themselves and represented Gustavus over their four years,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “It was a privilege to have them as members of our team and get to know them and their families. Although we wish we would have them this spring, we wish them the best.”
Laurel Ward (Sr., Bozeman, Mont.) led the Gusties by tying for 76th with a score of 80-83-81-244. Emily Kolb (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) tied for 79th at 82-81-82-245 and Annika Reierson (Jr., Delano) tied for 81st at 80-81-85-246.
Chris Gutuza (Fy., Johannesburg, South Africa) paced the men, tying for 66th at 73-77-76-226. Sam Skaar (Sr., Coleraine) tied for 77th at 78-76-74-228. Wyatt Wasko (Sr., Lake Elmo) tied for 80th at 72-81-76-229. Teddy Kaste (So., Apple Valley) tied for 84th at 76-79-75-230, and Cam Longie (So., Hutchinson) tied for 102nd with a 85-73-78-236.
“We battled hard today, got off to a great start,” Moe said. “The wind blew pretty hard today, making the tough stretch in the middle of the final nine really challenging. Our round today was right in the middle of the field, so we know we can compete with many of the teams, we just needed to play that way early in the event. We averaged 300 per round, which is a little better than our average this fall, so that tells you how strong the field was. I think we learned a lot about the importance of minimizing mistakes and taking advantage of holes when you can. Thankful to Lance Ringler and Golfweek for a great event.”
