SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s tennis team wraps up its fall season this week at the ITA Cup as it sends three student-athletes to the national singles and doubles tournaments. Marco Siviero (So., Sao Miguel de Oeste, Brazil) will represent Gustavus in the singles draw, while Drew Elofson (Sr., Saint Peter) and Gage Gohl (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) will compete in the doubles draw.
Siviero earned automatic qualification to the ITA Cup by taking second place at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship on Oct. 3 at Gustavus. Siviero won his first five matches to advance to the semifinals where he upset No. 2 seed Tarm Rojansoothon of Carleton 6-1, 6-5. Siviero lost in the championship to Luther’s Luke Westholder 6-1, 4-6, 0-6.
Siviero’s first round matchup at the ITA Cup is against Aiden Drover-Mattinen of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 10 a.m. EST Thursday.
Elofson and Gohl also earned automatic qualification to the ITA Cup by finishing runner up at the Midwest Regional. The duo won five matches to advance to the championship, including wins over the Nos. 2 and 7 ranked tandems in the region. Elofson and Gohl then lost to top-seeded John Zakowski and Luke Van Donslear of UW-Whitewater 4-6, 6-3, 10-12 in the title match.
