Men’s Soccer Cruises Past Concordia 6-1

No. 10 Gustavus men’s soccer Saturday cruised to a 6-1 win over Concordia, improving to 8-0-3 overall and 5-0-0 in the MIAC.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – No. 10 Gustavus men’s soccer Saturday cruised to a 6-1 win over Concordia, improving to 8-0-3 overall and 5-0-0 in the MIAC.

Ethan Miller (So., St. Cloud) started the scoring with a goal just 3:44 into the match, assisted by Owen Johnson (Jr., Apple Valley) and Carlos Robles (So., Minneapolis). The score remained 1-0 for the majority of the first half until Jared Hecht (So., Apple Valley) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 39 seconds left in the first. Rivaldo Pena (Fy., Rochester) was credited with the assist and the Gusties led 2-0 at half.

Ethan Glissendorf (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) opened the second half with a goal with the help of Alex Krumenauer (Jr., Otsego). Jack Knight (Jr., Verona, Wis.) scored in the 60th minute, assisted by Johnson, before the Cobbers ended the shutout in the 66th minute with an unassisted goal. Pena tallied his first goal of the season in the 68th minute on a penalty kick while Jakob Foss (Jr., Greencastle, Ind.) scored the final goal a minute later.

The Gusties dominated possession throughout the game, outshooting the Cobbers 25-3. Egan Bedwell (So., Milwaukee, Wis.) played 76 minutes in goal and allowed one goal on one shot faced. Latham Kleckner (Sr., Golden, Colo.) played the final 14 minutes and did not face a shot.

Gustavus continues MIAC play Tuesday night at Augsburg.
